Die schönsten Landschaften in Kambodscha findet man auf dem viele tausend Quadratkilometer grossen Gelände von Angkor Wat. An den Ufern der verträumten Seen und Weiher finden sich zahlreiche Skulpturen und Steine, einstige Mauern des weitverzweigten Tempelsystems aus der Zeit der alten Khmer. Wirklich exotische Landschaften, wie raffinierte Terrassenbauten oder exotische geografische Gesteinsformationen, sucht man in Kambodscha vergebens. Dazu muss man in den Norden des Nachbarlandes Vietnam oder beispielsweise nach Bali reisen. Weite Teile Kambodschas sind eher flach und landwirtschaftlich genutzt: Zuckerrohrplantagen und grellgrüne Reisfelder wechseln sich ab.

About 10 km from the famous Bokor Hill Station on the mountain of Phnom Bokor in the south of the country is the ruin of the Black Palace (Damnak Sla Khmao). This where King Sihanouk had a small summer palace, which he used in the 1950s and 1960s. The building was abandoned several decades ago. A graffiti portrait of the former king adorns one of the exterior walls. A few kilometers away, the small coastal town of Kep-Sur-Mer is home to a number of abandoned modernist villas from the 1950s and 1960s. At that time the place attracted celebrities from all over the world.
